The RFQ essentials

• Scope & BOM: part list, revisions, quantities (prototype, pilot, production).
• Drawings: clear views, units, datums, callouts, surface finishes.
• Tolerances: general note + fit-critical features; avoid over-tightening.
• Materials: grade/spec, color, hardness, certifications (UL/FCC/CE where relevant).
• Processes: e.g., IM/Sheetmetal/CNC; draft, radii, parting line expectations.
• Inspection: key dimensions, CMM/report needs, sampling plan.
• Quantity & lead time: order size, target dates, split-ship allowed?
• Packaging & shipping: packaging type, ship-to, Incoterms.
• NDA: attach or note it’s required before files.
• Response format: unit price, tooling/NRE, lead time, payment terms, notes.

Upstream check: run a quick DFM & tolerance review first. Fixing draft/undercuts now saves weeks later.
